On scene, at Compass Point National Library

So i've tried out Open Office, unimpressive. But a nice free replacement nontheless. I took the chance to install Office 2007 in school after my meeting with Miss Yee and Jocelyn, who, interestingly enough, calls Jocelyn Joycelyn, and me Matthiaus on certain occassions.

Endearing, no?

On the other hand, i'm actually blogging using this browser called Opera, honestly, i could learn to like this. IE is still the suck honestly (damn bloody resource hog), so i think i'd need to play around with this more to see if i can replace firefox with this. I seem to be using Facebook more now also. The really handy feature i like is where one can tag the faces in the photographs and this can allow the photos to be shared across the social network with the people in the pictures. Very nifty really!

I just might try out a consumer distribution on Linux once i get around it. I've heard good things about it, so just for the heck of it.

We now come to you live, from Burger King, Wheelock Place

I'm still not too used of the idea of having a backspace, half the size of the usual. But i am getting better at it now.

I figured since i didn't have Office on this laptop i'd take the opportunity to try OpenOffice, this office productivity software i've heard so much about. Thankfully the download speeds for Wireless@SG is quite decent, so i don't have to wait many hours for the 120+ MB download.

Will test-drive the new appliance and probably post my thoughts here once i've composed them properly.

i've went for karaoke about four or five times this week, i've lost count. Now i'm going to collect my xbox, and hopefully have it up and running by tonight. i hope my Fable save is still there, man i missed that game. okay, i've arranged a meetup with the xbox repairman at 9.30. I will see you all soon.

Reporting live, from Sim Lim Square's Foodcourt

Good day and welcome to the next update to my life.

I'm currently sitting down at one of the seats at Sim lim, while my girlfriend sits opposite me eating cheese naan with chicken curry that costs 3 dollars.

And by the way, i'm blogging from a laptop that i just acquired last night, a IBM Thinkpad X60. The real purpose i'm here at Sim Lim is upgrading the RAM on this current laptop and getting a nice sleeve for it. While i'm at that, i'm hoping that i can collect my xbox that i sent in for repairs two weeks ago.

I've been splurging on gadgets lately and I feel like myself again. The only thing that slightly irritates me now is the fact that the backspace key on this laptop is about half the normal size, and hence, causing me to press the "=" key instead.

I should get used to it soon enough though, i hope.

Until next time, take care people. School starts in about a week.

Housekeeping.

I am tempted to switch back to Friendster blogs. What do you think?

I wonder if my posts can be migrated there. They probably can i suppose. hmmm.

Anyway, i'll be doing some cleaning up, here and at the links page. Some things to be added, and others to be removed.

I've missed the Internet for so long, i'm glad its back.

I am grateful.

That i've been back for 3 weeks already.

Yes, life is returning to me. For once, the grass is greener on this side. Once one has been to the other side.

Regular updates following soon.

A slow blast from the near past.

So... the last post pretty much said nothing about my life here, other than missing National Day.

Here's the entry proper. What i really wanted to say the last time was that I was living one occasion everyday. On the seventh was the Chinese Valentine's Day, which on the lunar calendar was the 7th of July, when it was technically the 7th of August. Nothing much for me that day, couldn't even talk to my girlfriend.

On the eighth was the Beijing Olympics opening, and incidentally i had work so i totally missed it. Not that it was a big deal for me because i don't watch TV and i never was a big sports fan. I always miss World Cups, Superbowls, Premier Leagues and Olympics. The only thing that i have more interest in is maybe the X Games. That's just me i guess. Also, this day was the day when the other overseas interns officially end their attachment so i guess that struck me as more significant. I was envious really, that they could return to Singapore already, while i was still stuck here with the erratic weather of Hohhot. By the way, the temperature these few days fell back to 21 degree Celsius from 29. Fucking insane i tell you.

By the time i get back i'll be pretty much weather-proof. Like a camping tent.

On the ninth was Singapore's National Day, and i was still working. Didn't catch any live telecasts over the net though i heard that other than the Black Knights and the fireworks it was pretty much, you know, dull like every year. Not that China has an lack of fireworks, they get a go at it almost every week, and plus there's the damn noisy firecrackers, at every - single - wedding. pfft, but i wouldn't mind catching the Singapore Fireworks Festival, not that i'll be back in time for it.

Sigh.

Yesterday (the fifteenth for those of you who are clueless about the date today,) was the start of the Chinese Ghost Festival. Not that i'm fearful or something, i'm just respectful. And yet i still stayed out till about 1.30 a.m. at a local karaoke. They're almost as superstitious as we are back in Singapore, at least from what i see and hear.

Finally, to end this post on a very positive and shiny note, my last working day is on the 29th of August! I might or might not drop by Beijing for a bit of shopping and photography, but i'll be back in time for my 24th birthday. I'm hoping hard for this. I still need to buy a bunch of gifts for friends back in Singapore, and i'm looking forward to shopping!

Actually this OIAP has really been good to me, and i mean to say it outside of the scope of the benefits of OIAP. Just before my OIAP i had enough days to go for NPSU FOC, and right after that, i have enough days of clearance to go for Challengers!

Its almost like if you hope hard enough for something, it just might come true. Or Mathiaus is just a lucky dog. I'd like to believe both sentences are true.
